IELTS Listening practice for every part of the test
48 free exercises following the four parts of the IELTS Listening exam, from everyday conversations to academic lectures.
Built for IELTS, not general English
Organised by exam part
Lessons follow Parts 1–4 of the real test, from booking a hotel to academic lectures, so you train for exactly what you'll hear.
Marked the IELTS way
Write numbers as digits, just like in the exam. 8:15 and 8.15 both count, and capitals and punctuation never cost you a point.
Learn the exam's traps
Special lessons on distractors, where a speaker says one answer and then changes it, which is one of the most common ways to lose marks.
British, Australian and American accents
Switch accents and slow down or speed up any sentence. Free, with no sign-up, and your daily streak is saved automatically.
Why dictation works for IELTS
In the IELTS Listening test you hear each recording only once, and many answers are lost to small mistakes: a missed plural, a wrong number or a misspelled name. Dictation trains you to catch every word, not just the general meaning.
Just 10–15 minutes of dictation a day improves your ear for connected speech, your spelling and your ability to recognise numbers, dates and names, which are exactly the skills Part 1 and Part 2 test.
IELTS Listening practice: frequently asked questions
Is this IELTS Listening practice really free?+
Yes. Every lesson is free, with no sign-up. Your progress and daily streak are saved in your browser automatically.
How can I improve my IELTS Listening score?+
Practise a little every day, focus on the parts where you lose the most marks, and train your ear to catch every word. Dictation is one of the most effective methods because it shows exactly which words you miss: plurals, numbers, names and linked sounds.
What are the four parts of the IELTS Listening test?+
Part 1 is an everyday conversation, Part 2 is an everyday monologue, Part 3 is an academic discussion and Part 4 is an academic lecture. There are 40 questions in total, and each recording is played only once.
Should I write numbers as words or digits in IELTS Listening?+
Digits are usually best. They're quicker to write and avoid spelling mistakes. BandListen accepts both, so 3 and three are both correct.
Is this the same as the Academic or General Training listening test?+
IELTS Listening is the same for Academic and General Training, so these exercises help with both.
How long should I practise IELTS Listening each day?+
Even 15 minutes a day makes a difference. One BandListen lesson takes about 10 minutes, so a lesson a day is a great habit, and your streak helps you stay consistent.
